Hybrid of Engagement and Producers

Art Directors and Designers on film / tv content are very much appreciated for adding value to the total production quality and typically the direction a crew takes in the indie film space is led by the director.  As most Hispanics in the industry, I found it relatively simple to navigate through the world of Latino or African - American based productions and obviously had a tougher time cracking open the doors of opportunity for more Anglo American productions.  Since the paradigm has shifted in the last ten years, we have been able to slowly cross those bridges and are creating content that appeals to the largest consumer group in the country, us.  While studios and content creators are less trepidations in crewing up a with a diverse team, we have yet to understand the full scope of opportunities that exist beyond behind the scenes.  Entire industries, including our own, are changing their business models to include monetizing through digital distribution led by the impact if social media.  Yet, most Latinos are not utilizing their voices nor lending their valuable opinions in this arena.

I sit in many a conferences and festivals dedicated to the social media landscape and study the charts, listen to pitches with investors and typically I stand to be the less than 1% of the community to be both a Latina and a female.  Why is that most of our community and employment centers are not showing the 1st, 2nd or even 3rd generation Latinos the power of talking about technology?  I would assert that while the fashion and entertainment industries house properties that primarily cater to the evolution of Hispanic Domination, most of us aren't adding Online Marketing and social media as desirable careers.  After all, I have connected with my entire family from Puerto Rico, Guatemala, and Italy on Facebook and have chatted on skype to more than half of them at least twice a week.  We produce successful actors, writers and producers and to add myself as an executive in charge of online media marketing and social media to the iteration of bloggers such as Blogs By Latinas and other Latina/o influence-rs, we need to inspire each other in careers that utilizes new media and technology.

I propose we not only ask our rich community to embrace our identities but educate each other on solving our own educational pitfalls in order to shift the level of CPI - and U and to generate higher income levels, thus, change the status quo.  In our consideration of taste level's we can also shift the economy based on our desire to learn how to manipulate GDP and commerce.  With so many available tools to promote a larger sense of self discovery, and identity, we are also responsible for engaging in careers and conversations as authors that gives Mashable and Huffintonpost a run for their money.
